No network after XP re-install

I have a corporate laptop which I purchased. Since I had to get rid of all of the licensed software and some security restrictions, I decided to blow away the disk and re-install xp pro.  I set it up as a new install, re-formated hard drive and it looks like everything worked fine.  But it didn't

There is no network system available.  When I go into device manager everthing under OTHER DEVICES, including ETHERNET CONTROLLER, MULTIMEDIA AUDIO CONTROLLER, NETWORK CONTROLLER,  PCI MODEM, UNKNOWN DEVICE, AND VIDEO CONTROLLER (VGA COMPATIBLE) have a yellow question mark next to them.

I clearly can't get to the internet, but if I knew what to do I'd get the software from another pc and put it on a usb stick

I have an IBM T40 thinkpad, 2373/72u

it USED to have some IBM wireless software, and I thought that the xp pro distribution disk would have generic w/l, and wired, software which I figured would be good enough. But I have nothing

You need drivers my friend. The laptop came preinstalled with the drivers and now you will have to go to IBMs website and download the drivers for thatg particular model. Most other brands come with a driver resource disc and you may have one, but it has been my experience that IBM doesn't like to include necessityes such as that.

i downloaded wired and w/l drivers, they looked like they installed, but no change

I guess next time I will spoon-feed the link to the obtain the drivers.
I would agree for a Split
