This can happen for various reasons.
Have you checked your computer for viruses/spyware using their latest definitions?
Also, are other applications misbehaving (crashing, locking up) or just MS-Paint?

ASKER

im actually scanning for viruses ,

i'll look for spyware after the virus scan will be completed . 82minutes elapsed and the virus scan is not completed.

im scanning over the network because the guys is in a conference that explain the slowness of the scan.

If the computer is very very clean, whats should be my next step ?
the other application we have problem with is Primavera project planner, when we open it, we receive a MSPAINT.exe error msg , i think primavera need mspaint.exe to work.

i run a full virus scan with symantec antivirus 9.0 corporate, up to date,

and i run a spyware scan with Windows defender beta 2 , up to date.

nothing detected.

we can bypass  mspaint , with primavera software, but mspaint still not working if i open it up.

As i understand it, you can deal with the problem in Primavera, but paint still won't work.  You didn't answer my question, are there any other unusual application behaviour, crashing, locking, besides mspaint.exe?

If there isn't, perhaps the binary itself is corrupted somehow.
Check the hard disk too for errors (with scandisk or a similar tool - including surface test).

Have you tried to send error report to microsoft when the crash occurs? They can analyze it and if solved, the next time it occurs, a page with a solution will be presented to you.

Dragon Krome:

There is no unusual application crashing locking , etc... for now...

but i think that checking the hard disk for error its a good idea. i'll do that

i never sent that report to microsoft but i will. even if they work on it in 2 year , they will still work on it.

scrathcyboy :

I installed irfanview ,  that work for us now, we will forget mspaint because we actually cant reinstall windows xp.

thanksfor all of you guys i apreciate your help a lot.
now how can i split the points to both of you ?

i will try.

seeyalater guys

Right near where you reply is a blue link, split points.  Generally you assign points to the answer/answers that helped the most.

Glad IrfanView worked for you, it is one of the truly great free programs out there.  It is MUCH more capable than MS paint.  Good luck.
I'm having the same problem, but Visio needs mspaint!
