I am trying to open reports in quicbooks pro 2004.  When I go to view the pcl report the quicbooks browser opens up and inside of that adobe reader, and it say unable to open file.. or the browswer will say the number of pages the report is and just be blank. Is there any steps i can follow to trouble shoot this issue ?

Thanks

I am a Quickbooks expert, but your description is not entirely clear as to the problem.  Could you please explain if the adobe reader is a new version or an old, if an old version, it might not read the newer file.  Please give more details and I can easily solve this for you.

I recently installed adobe reader 7.07 , and it runs fine.  We have no problem opening up the reader reports, its the ones that are PCL files, that try to open in the quickbooks browser with reader that I have a problem with.  So basically I can't open the pcl files.  I also get the same error when I go to   "view to print" .  any ideas ?

Probably all that has happened is that the Adobe acrobat installation "hijacked" the PCL extension.

Open windows explorer and navigate your hard disk to a directory where the PCL files are.  Find a PCL file you want to view, then RIGHT click on the name and choose -- Open With ....

Then at the bottom of the list, pick choose program -- now pick Quickbooks from the list of programs, and before you click OK, at the bottom, check "always use this program to open these files", then click OK.

Does that do it?

might be that quickbooks 2004 does not link correctly to Acrobat 7.  What version of Acrobat did you use before this happened?  Was it version 5?  If so, uninstall acrobat 7 and reinstall acrobat 5 (or 6 or whatever you had previously) and it should work again.  Why you NOW describe is a system LINKING problem, nothing to do with the program opening / not opening the file, but the active links from quickbooks to Acrobat.

You will need a newer version of quickbooks to link with Acrobat 7, so either take Acrobat back, or upgrade quickbooks.

not necessarily, try it with 6, I find 6 can read essnetailly everything of a supposed 7 document, they just "recommend" latest version.  Many people have problems with 7, go back to 6, all work OK.
