PDF displays Blank in IE until you refresh the Browser

All

I am dynamically generating a 56 page PDF from an ASP page.  Once it is generated, it is displayed inside an IFrame (with a response.redirect).  About 1 out of every 10 times the document will display all blank pages until I hit refresh.  then I get the whole document.  All documents are generated with linearize turn on.

I am using Reader 7.0.7, IE 6.  I can make the problem worse if I set the HTTP Header to expire immediately on the IIS Server (happens every time), if I set it to not expire at all, I get the problem about 1 out of every 10 times.

Any clues?

Does the problem happen if you open the pdf in a new window instead of the iframe?

I can not test that since this is a part of a bigger application going across multiple servers.

I can do some coding to set up a test, but want to make sure it is worth the coding.  Do you have some particular thoughts that makes you think that opening it directly will solve the problem?

I am thinking there is some caching going on in the browser that the iframe is hanging onto somehow, but don't go to any trouble for lil' ole me.

This is basic problem with acrobat 7.  It has many bugs and one is refresh of long documents, it does not do it right.  So what do you want to do, it is nothing to do with caching, it is a basic FLAW in acrobat 7.  What do you want to do?

OK, I put together a test so that it just does a response.redirect (with no Iframe) and the problem still exists.

this problem ended up being solved by turning off linearization!
