I'm trying to backup a SQL database with NetBackup 5.1.  In terms of selecting files I can do this through a policy.   There is a selection dropdown with the following choices: ALL_LOCAL_DRIVES, System_State, New_Stream, UNSET_All, UNSET.  How do I backup a SQL database using NetBackup 5.1?

    Accepted Solution

You either need to stop the SQL service from running, or you need an SQL agent for netbackup, and then you should see the database as a SQL database in the selection list.

    Assisted Solution

Alternately you can use Enterprise Manager in SQL to perform the backups of SQL, and then let Netbackup backup the database dumps. Then just set a backup of local drives through your Netbackup policy.

Otherwise you'll need the SQL agent which is pretty pricey.
