CR XI - Do not perform grouping on server OPTION when using multi DB's??

Experts:

What is the implications involved with NOT "unchecking" the PERFORM GROUPING ON SERVER box in the Options menu when I'm using mulitple (2 in this case) databases?

I have a report that has the MAIN report pulling data from DB 1, and subreports..2-4 pulling data from SAME DB 1, but subreport 5 is pulling data BOTH from DB1 and DB2.

Will it just slow down the server? Or will my data be incorrect?

Thanks

I don't think there is any implication.

Unless you wish to do the grouping (if any) on the client PC which generally is much slower than doing it on the server.  Yes the server will have more to d but then that is why you have fast servers with lots of memory and multiple processors.  Also you will pass all data to the client then group and filter.

If you aren't doing any grouping then there is no impact.

Just an added note...DB1 AND DB2 are on separate servers.....if it matters.

That could make a difference.  I suspect in that case the grouping may already be being done on the client.

There are prerequisites for "Perform Grouping on Server" to be useful anyway.  If these prerequisites aren't met, then the setting is ignored and grouping must occur on the client side.  I suspect that this option isn't used when you have mutliple datasources, but I could be wrong.

If you are pulling data from two different data sources,  the grouping will take place on the client.
