Intermittent scan to email issue

Dear Experts,

Well the company has 2 FujiXerox Document Centre All-in-one printers and one HP Network Scanner. Every now and then (maybe once every 2 weeks), the scan to email option seems to fail and we need to reboot the win2k server in order to resolve the problem. We just get an error on the machines saying that it was not sent. We are using and Exchange server for emails. Any idea why?

p/s> pls let me know should extra information be required.

have you looked in the event viewer of the system the document scanner is configured on? if there are communication problems, these should be listed in the eventviewer.
is the document scanner set up to use exchange using a service? does this stop unexpectedly? how does the document scanner connect to exchange?
