Apache access log info

For example ......

61.172.244.214 - - [13/Oct/2003:03:46:39 -0400] "CONNECT 64.157.4.78:25 HTTP/1.1" 405 235

I know the "405" in the apache error code for " method not allowed"  BUT what is the second # (235) refer to?  What is the field ?

If you are using Common Log Format, the 235 there refers to the size of the response body in bytes (size of headers not counted).
