Image transfer time - vb.net

Hello,

Have a winforms grid with an image column containging thumbnails (100 x 75 @ 6kb each)
the images are on a mapped drive to a fileserver and  accessed through a vpn.
pulling less than 300 images takes @ 6 minutes. getting upspeed @1350 at the host.
seems like enough..

how do websites feed out images so fast? do they have that much more band?
maybe  a webservice would be quicker than drive mapping as i am.

thanks

jim

Hi,

6kB for each image x 300 images = 1.6MB: SIX long minutes for less than 2MB page? Take a look in detail at the code.
You can try an equivalent code (pure VB6 or VC6) to test where the problem is.

BTW, if the code parses instead of boxing, the performance will be severely affected.
If it is the case, take a look at http://msdn.microsoft.com/chats/transcripts/net/05_0309_dn_libclr.aspx
