Remoting in C#

WHat changes if any have been made in remoting in the new .NET framework ?
I was told that Remoting has been 'grand daddied' and that Web Services were being promoted over it.
Is this true and if it is not what changes have been made in remoting from .NET 1.1 to .NET 2.0

It was often mentioned that remoting has security problems and will not be supported by MS in the future. In Framework 2.0 there are still some improvements on security and some other new features, read about them here:

When it comes about the distributed applications of tomorrow, one speaks about unification of different technologies upon which distributed application rely (web services, remoting, enterprise services) into one single platform – Windows Communication Foundation.
