Outlook 2003 not connecting to exchange server after Visio 2003 install

I am running Outlook 2003 on XP Pro, connecting to an offsite exchange server.  This machine has beenworking fine for months prior.  After installing Visio 2003 and patching, I am no longer able to connect to my offsite server.  I can still download mail but after that it locks the machine up by taking 50-75% of the cpu.  If I cancel the app and restart it I can work offline with the newly downloaded mail.
