my site is now taking very long to load
We have had this Intranet site running for almost 6 years which was created in FP. We update it from time to time. About 3 weeks ago it stop working the way it used to work. It now loads up very very slow when you call it up with your I.E. from any computer on our LAN. I made a copy of it and put it on another server and still it loads up very very slow from any computer on our LAN.
Any suggestions on what to check?

also - are there any flash animations on the page you are surfing?
if so - they could be misconfigured or corrupt or swf files missing
also - try to surf directly to a page rather than waiting for a default document to show up
try adding the intranet site to your list of trusted sitees in IE
try another browser and seee if it is still happening

If you use a proxy on your LAN, bypass it on IE for the intranet site.
Your problems seems to be a network issue if all the above dont work- I bet your IT is impementing something on the network that you are not yet aware of. Liase with them to resolve this.

Bigbillydotcom,
Thanks,
I tried another brower (Firefox) and bam! it comes up just fine. When I use I.E. is takes about 90 seconds. I notice that the main page of this web site is the only one that does this. This page has about 15 Hover buttonswhich we created in Frontpage on it and I suspect that is my problem. Any suggestions?

Any one know if there is a quick way to solve this button problem? anyway to just turn off the hover action?
Thanks
Thanks
The hover buttons are Java. I would seriously consider getting rid of those Java buttons. There are issues with MS and Sun and Java just does not play nicely with IE at times.
You can't turn them off, but you can use images or text or something else.

Thanks coreybryant,
I was looking for a quick way out but is sounds like I will have to brake out the old rusty web skills and do some changes. What sticks is that it has worked fine for years and I suspect a E.I. upgrade screwing things up...

For awhile there, IE would lock up on me and I would have to shut it down & restart. Then the webpage that had Java would work.
You might try going to Java and seeing if they have an update - but you also have to remember, you are only doing that for your computer, not others that are browsing

i bet it is a setting in internet explorer
when you update your jvm at http://www.java.com (which ALL XP users have to)
it automatically checks "Use JRE version xxxxx for applet" (Tools...Advanced....Java( Sun)
try unchecking that
then, make sure you have a check JIT compiler for virtual machine enables
under Microsoft VM (same page, just scroll down a little)
save those changes, close all browser windows
and try again
I bet your problem goes away
I agree with Corey - as much as I love those buttons, they are a pain at times

If it is happening to all your users - consider something else. If you like the effect - you might consider doing flash or something. But of course that can increase your load time as well.

What does not work? Turning on the JIT or something else?
What OS do you have - and IE version?

When loadinf web site it is very slow and the buttons kind of flash out of control. This happens with or without Microsoft VM JIT.
I.E. 6.0

Have you tried to clear your internet cache ? You might need to reboot. And then try the site. Shut down IE and then try the site again
You sure you like those hover buttons?
