Congiuring two offices mail setup (Exchange.MDaemon)

Hi all,

I am setting up a network between two offices.  I am going to set up a VPN between both offices.

At present one of the offices are using MDAEMON for there mail server.

I have exchange on the new network.  The same client is going to work from both so he wants to retreive his mail from both locations.  At preasent he pops his mail form MDAEMON in office 1.  So all his mail is on his laptop.

What i am wondering is can I configure Exchange(in office 2) to POP mail from MDAEMON (office 1), as there will be a VPN is it a matter of specifying the mail server settings as an ip address of mdaemon mail server (incoming/outging as 192.168...).

Or would I be better setting both up with exchange as I like the way exchage handles mailboxs i.e you can receive all your mails from whereever you log on, seemly with the mdaemon was configured you pop the mails from it so it doesnt stores the mails?

Hope I am making sense,

What version of Exchange are you running?
What mail clients are you running?

Personally I would use Exchange at both offices if you have the opportunity but this still would not necessarily meet the requirement as his mailbox will only be at one location still.

Exchange is 2003, and mdaemon is on server with 2003 sbs.
I noticed today that both servers have difernt domains i.e henry, henryco

Could this be an issue with logging on to networks and in mail setup with exchage,

Could I simply not use exchage in office 2, and use oulook to pop mails from server 1(mdaemon server), would this work by any chance? all mails would be held on server 1.  Would I need same domain setup if thats the case?

Yes, you could do that quite happily.

No, you don't have to set up the same domain. As long as the exchange has credentials that allow connection to the Mdaemon then the POP would work.
