Output Quality problems on HP Color Laserjet 5M

I have recently bought a 2nd hand HP Color Laserjet 5M.

Whenever I print a page, the content of the first page is also vagely printed on the second page. This only happens at the top of each page (about 1/3) and the previous' page content is shifted about 1/4 page to the left.

I have tried cleaning all parts described in the manual but that did not resolve the issue.

I'm open to suggestions to resolve this printing problem.

Sounds like you have a ghosting problem caused by a worn out fuser.  Try doing a half page test, stopping the printer before the paper goes into the fuser.  Check the print, and if it is ok then remove and inspect the fuser.

Thanks for the reply. I'm not sure it's a fuser problem. The fuser is at 54% of its lifetime.

I'm suspecting thet problem lies with the drum as the ghost image is still visible on it. Manually rotating the drum will clear the image. The drum is only at 14% of its lifetime.

% of liftime is not important if the units are old in time. Toner degrades over time even if there is alot left to be used in the cartridge. Definitely sounds like a toner cartridge problem.

The HP Color Laserjet does not have toner cartridges.

I still think the problem is with the drum. What physical part of the drum takes care of removing obsolete toner from the drum? Why would this not work when printing a page but does work when rotating the drum manually?

I have opened the drum and removed any toner traces. Eaither because of this or because of re-assembling the drum, ghosting has disappeared and prints are clear again.

Scraper blade inside that cleans the drum was probably dirty. By opening it you clean or repositioned it and now it is cleanig again.
