Security suite on three computers

Hi

I have three computers on my home network and i want software that can be used on three computers for one license.

Windows live one care do this, but it is not availble for other than us residents..

The best thing would be internet security package with malware protection..
Not free ones..

Here is a cheap (free) customized solution to your problem:
DON'T run your computers in the Administrator account.
Setup limited user accounts for your daily activitys (Control Panel, User Accounts)
Only use the Admin for installing Software.
This will eliminate 99% of problems

For the other 1% of problems, I suggest using a personal firewall:
Use Kerio Personal firewall its, free.
http://www.kerio.com/

And a combination of Anti-Virus/Spyware
AntiVir or AVG
and
Spybot search and Destroy

AntiVir free version: http://www.free-av.com/
AVG free version: http://www.grisoft.com/doc/1
Spybot free version: http://www.safer-networking.org/en/download/

Your computers will be bulletproof, and you won't have spend a dime.

I have checked Trend Micro and McAffee websites and their offers also look like they are restricted to US and Canadian residents only - but then i am looking at the US portals for the sites. I did look at the UK site for Trend Micro and did not see a multiuser version available however.

What country are you from?

If you look at the Symantec site for Norton Internet Security 2006 you will see that you can specify loads of countries when you add the software to your cart:

http://www.symantec.com/home_homeoffice/products/overview.jsp?pcid=is&pvid=nis2006

This is what it says it does:

Detects and blocks spyware, viruses and adware.
Automatically blocks intruders and identity thieves.
Automatically filters spam and dangerous phishing email.

Norton is very expensive though - $119 for a three user license.

Other people may well be able to suggest other suites but out of these 3 it looks like Norton is your only choice if you are not from the US or Canada. Posting your country would help too.

Hi, thanks for reply. I`m from norway :-)

Mark, i know. And as i have seen clamwin and avast is better than a lot of paid software, avg did let a lot of viruses through in a test i saw. But i want a complete solution that is good, and no free firewall is good enough.. But mayby all together i will go for free solution because i do not want to pay 119 $ for securing all my pc`s..

Prickly, live one care costs 50$ for three pc`s in home network, only for us residents. There should not bee any problem using the us version of mcafee and norton. But theese are pretty expensive.. And what is the renewal fee..?

MOST viruses are stopped by running as a limited user.
Kerio is rated the highest by most tech professionals, and it is FREE.

If you go beyond the layman's websites, and consult with a security specialist, they will support what I am saying.

Check out Gibson Research Corporation.  It one of the top security sites in the world.  Check there forums for what they recommend.

Well i have been using Trend Micro PCcillin for two years now - i paid $50 for a 5 user licence and have just renewed for $45 - does that sound more reasonable? Just not sure if you can get it for that price outside the US.

The best protection is yourself. The users of the systems. A well written malware script will get through any protection available. You will have to trust the software companies databases. Kaspersky is the best database and protection available. Tough one to beat. But it is costly. If you really do not wish to pay too much then as prickly recommended trend micro will do the work nicely. As I said the best AV and firewall is YOU :)

You didn't mention the O/S version you are running -

Win XP SP2 - turn firewall on
Another vote for AVG free edition
Windows defender is not a bad anti spyware product, and also free.

Ensure windows update is working, and you machines are patched up to date

Also another vote for limited users - power users at most, preferably actual 'users' where possible to help reduce risks.

Zero cost, and you'll be pretty secure.

Slightly more work would be a third party free firewall such as zone alarm - the benefit being that most third party firewalls offer outbound as well as inbound controls and monitoring which is the major deficiency of the built in windows firewall.

Another thing to consider is your set-up - how do you access the web, is one machine the gateway, or are you using a firewall / router?

If you have a separate firewall then correctly configuring this would likely mean windows firewall was enough, if a machine is web facing then it is probably worth using a third party firewall.

hope this helps.

cheers

Kevin

Mark: could not on the time see any reference of limited on Grc, but i have in periodes used limited account. And i belive this will add a extra layer of protection to my computer, as steve says :-) I have a router as the first layer and are using ez armour as a second layer, this will filter outgoing connection as well.. I`m using armour illegal for the moment as i am using it on two computers..

Purple: I agree.. dont help a lot with all security if i surf without thoughts of security. Porn.. hehe And if you have a firewall and allow everything that will be as no firewall.. The internet is a warzone and have to treat it like this.. :-)

Prickly: The trend three user license costs 110 euro here.. :-(
