Deleted User Outlook folder

Hello,

I had a user account on windows XP, which I used to download all my emails from by ISP mail server. This I believe was saved to "C:\Documents and Settings\User\....\Outlook.pst"

I deleted the user account, and at that time, I asked to delete "user" files when prompted. Unfortunately (duh!) this deleted important emails for that account.

I have tried using all file recovery softwares, but have no luck in this.

Is there a way to recover this outlook file?

If the PST file is deleted, it means, it is marked as deleted on the disk. File recovery software is able to recover the file (delete the deleted flag), as long as the file is not overwritten by other files. If you have enough free disk space, the chance is good to get the file recovered. If you free drive space was low and its a few time ago you deleted the files, the chance gets smaller and smaller. If you have tried to revcover it with file recovery software and this software was not able to recover the PST file, parts of the file may be already overwritten.

There maybe a very small chance to recover it by specialised recovery experts, what my mean, stop everything you are doing on this drive and try to find a company which is able to recover it. Prices for such a recovery may vary, but you have to expect something between 500 and 1000 USD, dependend on what is to do.

I learned to know an expert here in EE, who said, he is able to recover files, nevertheless they are overwritten. I can search for him, if the data is such important, that you want to pay money for the recovery.

Greetings, nimeshray !

You need to unhide hidden folders and files. Go to any folder and select Tools > Folders Options > View. Check "Show hidden files and folders". Click OK.

Now use one the undelete software to recover the PST file

His official website is dead, but maybe, he can help you. Try to contact him, but no warranty from my site. It sounded interesting, what he had said within a few threads.

according to microsoft, deleting a user account, user files are permanently deleted, and there is no way to recover this.

> permanently deleted

That means, that they are not move to the trash folder. Nevertheless, deleting data on a harddrive means only, that they are marked as deleted, so that the space on the harddrive can be overwritten.
