Sub totalling Columns in a view

I am trying to get a view to sub total a selction which is text and not sure how I can set this up. I have graphically tried to describe what I need to do below. Not sure how to count when it is a text value. I want the same as the Count function in Excel.

Value 1
       Option A
       Option A
       Option A
       Option B
       Option B

Value 1
       Option A
               3
       Option B
               2

ASKER

Just to clarify

This is the standard view
Value 1
       Option A
       Option A
       Option A
       Option B
       Option B

This is what I want it to look like, counting the Option A and Option B selections
Value 1
       Option A
               3
       Option B
               2

THis is definitely the right track, just one detail I am hoping can be fixed.

Below is a copy of the data in the view. the entries are showing hidden below the option, in this case New Hardware. I have a twistie for this item, is there a way to have the view collapse the individual entries by default?

      Office            Stock
      716      1
              1      New Hardware
      718      1
              1      New Hardware
Any ideas why this type of view setup would not work in a Send Newsletter Summary Agent? I am only getting a doclink and the number 1 I entered as the value for that column above. Can a categorized view be used in a Newsletter?
Under view properties >> second tab >> Put a tick in collapse all when database is first opened.

From above it looks like you might also want to categorise the third column as well.

Hope this helps!
