grblades ... thanks for your comments. To tell you the truth I am totally new in this (VOIP) field. I am reading some material on the net and now know a little about what it is and how it works but my knowledge is still very shallow on the number of solutions available. I would really appreciate your help if you guide me through this maze. I have increased the number of poits also. Many thanks once again.

OK so what is it that you wish to do?
You could install Asterisk (see http://www.asterisk.org and http://www.voip-info.org/wiki-Asterisk) which will allow you to connect to different voip providers.
You would also need some sort of phone which could be a hardware one or a software client like X-Lite, SJphone or DiAX.
If you also get a FXO telephone card (http://www.x100p.com is what I use) then you could also link asterisk to your analogue telephone line.
