Mac Mail - Refused to Allow Connection on Port 43

Hi Folks,

I am a newbee to Mac.
I am trying to set up mail on a MacIntel Tiger OS Version 10.4

I created an account on an Exchange Server 2003 and i and i then created an account on the mail app
on the mac. i got an error after i sent an email

"The Server encountered an error refused to allow connection on port 43"
Any ideas people on how i might be able to fix this please :-)

    IMAP services are generally on port 143, not port 43.
    In goto Preferences..., then select Accounts and goto the Advanced tab.
    Make sure that the port number is specified correctly for your system.
    Verify the port number, protocol (IMAP or Secure IMAP), and authentication mechanism with your Mail administrator.
