if you already have a VoIP account, you have to check with your service provider to see what they support and find the appropriate softphone. SIP vs. H.323 can make a difference. X-Lite is pretty good. Snom has a softphone client which is essentially the same as their hardware phone, just emulated. I've been using that in testing lately, it's pretty good.

In that case X-Lite and SJphone would be good products to try as they are both SIP based. Personally I would use SJphone as it is a muchcleaner user interface and easier to configure.

VoIP with softphone s/w
