How do I use the performance monitor?

I would like to see how much bandwidth im using of my network.  Im reading a book called microsoft exchange 24seven.  This book states that i can accomplish this task using microsoft's performance monitor but it does not step you through how to set this up.  Has anyone used microsoft's performance monitor?
