External HDD not recognized

Trying to attach an external HDD  120 GB (in case enclosure) to a laptop.

It has its own power supply.

When I go to Admin Tool > Computer Management > Disk Management

it does appear but it just say "unallocated"

It does not appear in "my computer"

    Is this a brand new drive?  It needs to be formatted, then assigned a drive letter.

    callandor, yes its brand new - how do I format it  ? how do I assign it a letter ?

    In Disk Management, right-click on the unallocated drive and choose Format.  It may assign it a letter automatically, or you can use the same menu to Change Drive Letter and Path.
