Restored files from backup are set for read only

I recently backup files from a server which I plan on decomissioning... I have restored these files along with Acitve Directory to another server which I am using as my production server... I have recreated the shares on the new server and pointed all user to the shares on the new server... My problem is all of the files (excel, word & PP data) which I have restored to the new server are in read only format... How do give full access for these files back to my users..

Could it be that it's not the files that are read-only, but the *shares* that you recreated? By default, a new share created on Server 2003 will only have Read permissions for the Everyone group; it's easy to forget to change that when creating a share.

You were correct... The share permissions were set to Read Only... I corrected the share permissions and the users were able to write and save their files...

Thanks for the Help
