Exchange Migration Wizard

We are planning to move mailboxes from exchange 5.5 to exchange 2003 through exchange migration wizard. We want to move 2 Users at a time.I want to manually create these users and then use the exchange migration wizard to move the mailbox.
When creating a new user, what are things that I need to take care about,So that mailbox is properly moved to the correct user.

Exchange Migration Wizard is used to migrate mailboxes from Exchange 5.5 to Exchange 2003 in two different organizations. If your Exchange 5.5 and Exchange 2003 belong to the same Exchange organization, you need to use Exchange tasks - move mailbox from Active Directory Users and Computers.

How to use the Exchange Migration Wizard to migrate mailboxes from an Exchange organization.

In case of two different organizations, after moving the mailbox from Exchange 5.5 org to Exchange 2k3 org, you will have to connect the moved mailbox to a user in Active Directory (Exchange 2003). To connect a mailbox to a user in Active directory, you can use "Mailbox recovery center" a new feature in Exchange server 2003.

Q:- what are things that I need to take care about,So that mailbox is properly moved to the correct user
A:- Exchange migration wizard doesnt move mailboxes, it is simply a copy process and it doesnt delete the mailbox from the source organization (Exchange 5.5 in your case). So, after copying the mailbox to Exchange server 2003, you will have to connec the mailbox to a user in AD, and for that simply the alias name would be enough for a mailbox to search the correct user in AD.

I would suggest you to perform a test on a single test mailbox first and then proceed further with your production users.

Thanks,
Amit Aggarwal.

When I create a new user I suppose that user shouldn't have a mail box. Is that right.

First you need to decide if the user created by Exchange migration wizard is good for you, if yes, then dont create the users manually and let the "Exchange Migration Wizard" create the user accounts for you.

In case, you have already created user accounts in AD (you shouldnt have created the mailbox for these users), you need to delete the mailbox from the new user (created by Exchange migration wizard), delete the user account created by Exchange migration wizard and then connect the mailbox to the user created by you.
