Event ID 113 The DNS server could not signal the service "NAT". The error was 1168. There may be interoperability problems between the DNS service and this service.

I am getting this error everytime the DNS service is restarted. I did everything including what was in the below link. Anything else I could do?

Rob WilliamsCommented:
-Are you using routing and remote access for anything such as ICS, NAT/routing, or VPN?
-Is the Routing and Remote Access Service Running in the Services management console? and is it set to automatic, manual, or disabled?
-are there more than one network adapters on this, I assume, server?
Answers may help to start to pin point. Would also be a good idea to run NetDIAG on the server and see if there are any obvious connectivity errors. It is available as part of the Windows Resource kit or from:
http://www3.ns.sympatico.ca/malagash/Downloads/Net/netdiag.exe

Yes - Using RRAS for VPN
Yes - Running and set as automatic
Yes - 4 network adaptors, one orginally enabled for internet, since I got everything installed I started up a second one to be used for the VPN services

>>"4 network adaptors"
Definitely could be a DNS issue with something not pointing to the right DNS server, or improper routing. Let's see if netdiag shows anything. On the same site is DCDiag. Wouldn't hurt to run that too.

Not sure myself, however a couple of suggestions;
-really doesn't affect this, but is the WINS service enabled and configured on on 192.168.1.10? Just wondering why it failed, but not related to your problem
-what is 192.168.1.1 ? I assume it is a router.  If so, remove that from all network adapters (including work stations) as a DNS server. It should be only a gateway. Then make sure your ISP's DNS servers are listed as forwarders in the DNS management console, and nowhere else (if configured on the router you can leave those)
-why are the 2 network adapters configured for the one network? That maybe OK but wondering what their respective "jobs" are. I am not sure but having 192.168.1.11 doing DNS look-ups to 192.168.1.10 may cause a bit of a loop. If one adapter is accepting incoming connections such as the VPN you should leave the gateway on that adapter, but I would try removing from the other.

Then I would run the following from a command line:
netdiag  /fix
ipconfig  /flushdns
ipconfig  /registerdns

I didn't see your second results before posting. DNS looks healthier. I would still recommend my suggested changes.

This is just getting annoying...like I said it's not causing any major issues but the error in dns is just pissing me off.  =)

-Well at least you got rid of the dcdiag errors <G>
-You may find having removed the router from the DNS settings you get faster logons, especially on the workstations.

I'm running out of suggestions:
1)As suggested before;
why are the 2 network adapters configured for the one network? That maybe OK but wondering what their respective "jobs" are. I am not sure but having 192.168.1.11 doing DNS look-ups to 192.168.1.10 may cause a bit of a loop.
Also, if one adapter is accepting incoming connections such as the VPN you should leave the gateway on that adapter, but I you shouldn't need a gateway on the other if it is just accepting LAN connections."

2) try going into the Services management console and manually stopping the routing and remote access service, and if re-booting, set to manual. See if the 113 error stops. That might at least narrow down the source of the problem, as it will disable any NAT functions. Note: doing so will kill the VPN until you re-start the service, so choose your timing if that is critical.

for the most part you helped me fix everything. upon doing more research I found this is a commen error that doesn't really affect performance and network usage very much and I can deal with it for now.

Thanks for all the help and maybe one day I'll see wtf is going on....hehe
