Error when starting exchange service - "Could not start the Microsoft Exchange Management service on Local Computer"

Hi All,

We have a server running Exchange Server 2000 at one of our offices which ran out of disk space today, as such exchange stopped working.  I cleared some disk space and restarted the server, all services have come back up except the Microsoft Exchange Management service, when I try and start this service I receive the following error:

Could not start the Microsoft Exchange Management service on Local Computer.
The service did not return an error. This could be an internal Windows error or an internal service error.
If the problem persists, contact your system administrator.

All users can still access exchange and email appears to be moving in and out of the building ok even without this service running.

Any ideas?

Also, we had a power cut this morning too and the server shut down dirty, which may or may not have any relevance to this problem.

Any help is much appreciated.

Thanks for that, it worked a treat, the service is now up and running.

The registry key for the service (HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{44EC053A-400F-11D0-9DCD-00A0C90391D3}\InprocServer32), had changed from "c:\winnt\system32\atl.dll" to point to another atl.dll file in the "program files\HP Downlaod manager\" directory.

Why it changed is anyones guess as no work has been carried out on the server in several weeks.

Thanks again for your help.
