codec name

Hi,

I have an AVICOMPRESSOPTIONS structure filled in. The structure member:

    DWORD  fccHandler;

is supposed to be a:

    Four-character code for the compressor handler that will compress this video stream when it is saved (for example, mmioFOURCC('M','S','V','C')).

I want to know how to look up what the full codec name is based on the value of fccHandler... like if it is filled in with MSVC can I get something back like "Microsoft Video 1" ??

Thanks

Just idea:

1. Locate in registry codec under:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\windows NT\CurrentVersion\Drivers32

for example key

vidc.msvc          (I guess that "msvc" is simply four letter code)

get codec file name as associated key value &

2. Locate coded file in System32 directory &
access its VERSION resource to get codec description.

In this case it will be:

"Microsoft Video 1 Compressor"
