CSRSS.EXE takes up 100% CPU when Photoshop Runs
Posted on 2006-05-25
I have a Windows Xp Home Edition PC (Intel D865PERL Motherboard...P4 2.4ghz, 1gb Ram, evga 7800gs video 256mb(agp) 40gb IDE HD...etc). I recently intsalled Photoshop CS2 on it, and it ran alright for a few minutes and then went downhill real fast. It is very seriously lagged. I investigated and found that csrss.exe was using almost all and at some points all 100% of the cpu.
I searched the internet extensively as well as here and found no solution as yet. Two things I found that did not work, or were irrellevant:
1. corrupted profile. It was based on a Microsoft KB item which said that csrss.exe went to 100% when right-clicking in explorer. I created new profile, deleted old. rebooted. no difference.
2. Some virus/spyware/trojan appears as csrss. done all the checks, only one original file of csrss found anywhere, all scans come up negative. Virus theory eliminated.
The cpu only spikes (as far as I have seen) when I run photoshop. amount of memmory available while all this is running is still more than adequate...around 300 or more mb free.
Could it be related to gdi, or is it something else? I am in desperate need of an answer. Please help
