DVD STUDIO PRO 3 CRASHING AT THE END OF A BUILD

I have completed a dvd with DVD Studio Pro 3 (this is not the first one that i have done) I have 16gb disk space on my Power Book G4 Mac.

My problem beggins when i attempt to 'build' the DVD. it completes the build 'MuxingTrack 1 (only 1 track) shows 100% complete then Studio Pro crashes.

I have tried 'build/format' ..it doesnt crash but after the disk is burnt it will not play.

Can you please help

Many thanks

how big is the DVD disc supposed to be?  did you go over 4.7gb (DVD-5) or 8.5gb (DVD-9)?

216 mb the time line-track is only 6 mins but there are 92 menus
Should be adequate enough.  Got the right disc media type in the burner?
Yes ... it crashes just on build even before I am asked to insert  a DVD
How about reinstalling the software?
yes I will try that tomorow, its midnight here in England, thanks
ok.ciao for now.
I have re installed the software but the same problem occurs
Do you have another burning software like TOAST?  let's see if the drive is at fault.  If you experience a similar problem then the common denominator is  the drive.
The drive is ok, as I said before the problem happens also when I just build the DVD not burn it.
well...do you have another burning software?
I do but I cant do any burning until have have built the DV Video_TS folder
how about just burn something...not necessarily the project you're working on.

Looking for a general fault with the OS accessing the drive..if it is exhibited there, then it could be something OTHER than your burning software and more related to the OS.

I'll be tapping out for a little while, going into several meetings today..will be back online this evening.
NOTHING TO DO WITH THE BURNING OF THE DISK, BEFORE YOU BURN YOU HAVE TO HAVE A VIDEO_TS FILE AND ITS CRASHING AT THIS STAGE OF BUILDING IT. GOING BED NOW 10:50
Bear with me as I'm confused.. your first statement said that you can build, then subsquently you can't build.. Perhaps I'm missing something.

to clarify
you cannot build at all from the DVD Studio Pro DVD.  and you CAN burn all other things, except the VIDEO_TS file?

If so,

was this working before? Yes?

What other software has been installed since?

In addition, do you have the latest software update for the DVDSTP3?
After further investigation.......

when its biulding it shows muxing 100% completed, then says 'done' then crashes. but produces a VIDEO_VTS file.

I then format, it burns the disk, the disk will not play, shoes 'not permitted' when i try to play on my mac, it will not play also on my DVD player.

My DVD burner on the superdrive does burn ok

I have not installed any other software

I will investigate a software up date I am running ver. 3.0

thanks

I have removed all the chapter marks and was succesful in producing a DVD, will introduce 50% and see where problems is ie which chapter mark.
That's good news that you can do that...but if you are not able to include the chapter marks....that's something to say about the software.

Is it feasible to author the project from scratch?  (there may have been some anomaly introduced in the current project)
I have found the problem!!!

On the time line I had a video clip that I was unable to park a chapter mark exactly at the end of it. Even when i high lighted the clip and choose'Add marker to clip end' it would not reside there. On looking at the manual you can only place a chapter mark at the I frames, these only occur every at the Group of Pictures "GOP" boundries. I can only assume that  the clip must have been edited in Final Cut Pro in the middle of a GOP ?

I produced a new clip, installed it and everything worked ok.

cool...so did this apply >>>>"(there may have been some anomaly introduced in the current project)"
There must have been, but to author the project from scratch would have been a long and unneccesary job, my approach of fault finding bit by bit was far less time consuming. Building from scratch would not have removed the problem cos i would have re introduced the same problem clip then gone on to blame the system!!
