downloads stall?

What would cause my downloads to stall/stop?, I believe I had this problem before and I had to "re register some dll's" or something like that, any ideas?  thank you!

check for malware
Download and install this

Then copy the log and paste it in the analyzer

Analyze the file and POST THE LINK here so that we can take a look at it..

In the mean time, there are several things to apply:

Go to MSCONFIG, START-RUN-type MSCONFIG <enter> then located any programs you recognize that you can turn off. Note your changes as you may need to re-enter them.  Restart your machine
Download Ewido,, install, open program, check for updates, restart computer, press F8 before windows logo appears, select safe mode, open Ewido, run full system scan. let Ewido delete all it finds, if anything is called serious by Ewido, disable Norton's Goback, and run Ewido again.
chkdsk /r
Windowsupdate everything except .NET items
also try running a disc cleanup from start all programs accesssories system tools this will remove any corrupted or full temporary internet files.
But you could also do this delete your history and temp IE files as well.

At C drive r/click it properties defrag analyze it, do you see a lot of red?

Could be your anti virus scans the incoming download and decides it is probably bad?
When you download do you rightclick it and save as?

I've done what was suggested and there's really no change on my problem, I did manage to get some downloads to complete but it took numerous attempts, most downloads just stall and go nowhere, and some never begin, it's a real mystery, I thought it was a re-registering dll problem that I had once before and I thought it was this site that lead me to the fix, do you know anything about re-registering some dll files to fix this problem?
"c:\program files\internet explorer\iexplore.exe" /rereg

if you have IE6 then try uninstalling/reinstalling it
add/rem pgms - add/rem win components - unchk IE (reboot when done)
then go back in, & check it to add again (run windows updates then reboot)
try switching off xpsp2 firewall .
What are these files formats? this would really help, if your downlaoding .exe have you tired save as??
How big are these downloads?
What is your connection speed?
You'll have to be more specific about re-registering some dll . What arena are were talking about? Where do you see this error and when?

bartwbeyeAuthor Commented:
sorry it's been a while, June has been a crazy month, my firewall is off, files are mostly exe files, they're sometimes between 10 and 100MB, I always do "save as", my connection speed is a fast cable connection.

I don't know if this ties in or not but my outlook express is acting really strange, I hear the noise for mail received every 20 seconds or so and in the bottom right hand corner it says I've got 40 new messages???, the envelope icon shows up in the system tray but there's no 40 new messages??? what could this be about?, could it be a problem with IE6 and Outlook Express as well that's causing this overall strange behavior?, if so, how do I correct this?, do I uninstall and reinstall or can it (IE6 and Outlook Express) be repaired?
I get that too bartwbeye I know this is not related to your downloads just call it good service :)
I found what caused this if I have a hundred unopened emails from EE as you can imagine, if these are scattered over different dates and times  your Outlook will add these emails into the order of  dates.
Try compacting your emails or delete some.
Youcan changethe store folder directory in maintinenece to backup your emails.
try this:
choose a popular email you get lots of, my case I use EE correspondance,>> highlight one  must be highlighted for this to work<<
and get the sender address from the properties of this email copy  the source, then go to TOOLS> Message Rules> Mail>New Rule>tick Where the from line contains people> go down to the new blue link and paste in the sender address -ok > now go down to the 2nd box> tick the option to Highlight it with Colour then the blue link Colour appears and add colour of your choice  Lets say dark Blue ok,
now apply now do this where need you should see a small line installing rule. then close that.
Now all these emails from this source if the correct address has been added will all be in blue for easy distinction.
You can choose different colours for different mass emails.
Have fun.

With your downloads could be your anti virus is scanning it or S&D spybot spyblaster may consider it too dangerous, have you deleted your temporary internet files lately, run a disc cleanup at start all programs accessories system tools. Check the store folder size for temp files is adequate even reduce it if it is too big.In general settings IE options.

try using DAP, at least it gives the option to continue a download later. Add the virus scanner to the options to scanbefore opening it.

Isn't there anyone at the experts exchenge that can help me to fix my problem?, I've tried all the suggestions offered and nothing has corrected the problem, I seem to remember having this problem before (answered by the experts exchange) and I believe it had something to do with re-registering some .dll files?????

Isn't there someone who can help?
I think it has to be rlated to the fact they are .ee.
Unless you router is having latency or drop off's.
Do you mean these
Open an ms-dos prompt window and type the following hitting enter after each line.

regsvr32 Shdocvw.dll
regsvr32 Shell32.dll
regsvr32 Oleaut32.dll
regsvr32 Actxprxy.dll
regsvr32 Mshtml.dll
regsvr32 Urlmon.dll
bartwbeye, you didn't mention whether you had tried my suggestions above on 6/13 nor if they worked or didn't work - click shortcut below
bartwbeyeAuthor Commented:

I'm curious what made you select these .dll files? Don't I select start, run, enter the dll, and hit return? Is restart necessary after doing this process?

Thank you

I dont know what you remember bartwbeye all you keep saying is re-regestering some dlls and this is only one I can think of for now
without any more details, re-regestering dlls can cover an enormous subject as you can image how complex windowsxp is
these are for internet explorer just so you understand.
go to start>run> copy this one for example> regsvr32 Shdocvw.dll <, then press enter on your keyboard
as you already in the run once you hit enter it runs it, do the same for all the others.
Is this what your looking for?
you can also run them from start run type in CMD press enter then copy paste each one in to the CMD black box.
I dont think you need to restart.
Sometimes it helps though.
bartwbeyeAuthor Commented:
Sorry to say that the Experts were all incorrect. It wasn't a software issue at all it was a hardware problem. I began to think it was my Belkin router that was somehow causing this problem so I bypassed the router and had the same problem. Then I suspected my modem but there was no way to bypass it (or go to dialup which I guess I could have done) so that left me pointing to the NIC card. So I bought a USB 2 network adapter (to bypass my NIC Card) to test out my troubleshooting efforts and sure enough it fixed the problem and I had great downloads again! So I put in a new NIC card and my computer is now downloading away with no problems. I was having the same downloading issue across my 3 OS's (I run a multi boot system) and that ultimately led me to believe that it wasn't a software issue and it had something to do with my computer.  By process of elimination I isolated the hardware components responsible for communicating with my computer and fixed the problem myself!

Thanks anyway Experts, how do I get a refund of my points?
