open client for sybase

I have been asked by a user to install "openclient" driver for sybase on a redhat rhel4.  I went to to look for one; however, you have to be a "technical contact" or "partner" user to download the openclient.  Does anyone know where else i can download one (tar or rpm)?

If you already have a licensed Sybase server at your site, the CD includes the Sybase client on it.

If you don't, then download the "ASE Developer Edition"  for your platform. Registration required, but it's free. This includes a client. Or, since you're on Red Hat, you can also get the "Express Edition"...

    Thanks for replying,

What if I do not need the database software itself but just the "Open Client" utility to connect to the db at another server?  Is there such a tar file or an rmp that I can download?

    Accepted Solution

The downloads for the ASE Developers and Express Editions include a client download. I believe as a separate download, too.

Joe_Woodhouse, Can you tell us what file to look for on the CD to start the installation of ONLY the open client?

    Hi Lora,

When I launch the ASE 15.7 DE, I select a Custom install. That lets me install Open Client separately to the other components. You probably want just Open Client (probably not any of its sub-options), ODBC, OLE, and maybe Interactive SQL & Sybase Central.
