I have a dell 420 precession with dual processor board 9410W. I have to PIII 800/256/133 socket 1 and there identical  except one thing. One is 1.65 v and the other is 17v. Would the difference in voltage be the reason they won't work together?

Yes, the processors in dual processor boards need to match.

Actualy I was able to install both and there working fine. The BIOS is now seeing and accepting it. I put the 17v in the primary slot 0 and the 1.65 in the secondary. I don't know if that made the difference because at the same time I did that, I swapped out the video card because it was bad. So putting the higher voltage in the primary slot may or may not have made the difference. I know,,, I know that as a tech, you should always make one change at a time to troubleshoot the system but ehhhhhhhhh.
According to several articals I remember browsing through, as long as the proc speed, cache, and FSB are the same will work. The artical referred to dual proc having different voltage still working as long as you had some a certain regualtor chip, I don't remember. Working with Dell products like motherboards is squirly at best.  Ypu can do things with a straight out of the box board from, lets say Abit, having the same configuration i.e dual proces, FSB , etc etc, that you can't with the Dell biard.

anyway I go it as far as hardware goes, now i need to figure out what OS I want to install. I was thinking Srvr 2003.
