Hi,

I have a RV082 that uses a static IP address.  I can successfully setup a PPTP server on the RV082, people can connect, that part works great.  The PPTP server has a limit of 5 users, and I have more than 5 user accounts I need to setup.

I would like to use the QuickVPN software, however, it does not work.  Here are the messages I get while trying to connect:
1) Connecting
2) Activating Policy
3) Verifying Network (goes on for about a minute)
4) At this point, the RV082 says I am connected, and then...
5) On the Client, QuickVPN responds with "The remote gateway is not responding. You will now be disconnected", the only option is "OK".
6) Pressing "OK" then disconnects, and the RV082 does not show the client connection anymore.

Here are some logs from the RV082:
May 25 20:51:26 2006          VPN Log         Dynamic VPN client in Main Mode is only supported for Microsoft VPN client, please use Aggressive mode instead.
May 25 20:51:26 2006         VPN Log        Initial Main Mode message received on nnn.nnn.nnn.nnn:500 but no connection has been authorized. Please check your tunnel endpoint (gateway) setting.

The RV082 logs, I am guessing this message is my problem:
"Initial Main Mode message received on nnn.nnn.nnn.nnn:500 but no connection has been authorized. Please check your tunnel endpoint (gateway) setting"
Is this talking about the client??  Or is this the router?

I have road warriors that connect on different networks, maybe QuickVPN is not the best choice for the RV082.

It seems that many people have problems connecting with Linksys QuickVPN software.

Does anyone have an alternate suggestion for connecting to the RV082? ...besides thegreenbow suggestion.

Thank you,

Doug

Hi Doug,

You might want to take a look at a previously asked question on Experts-Exchange, a lot of common problems are listed there.
http://www.experts-exchange.com/Networking/Broadband/VPN/Q_21770682.html

The main points on where it might go wrong:
- Subnet used on both ends is the same (This is most likely your issue)
Make sure that the internal network of the client is on a different subnet as the internal network of the RV082.

- The router (if there is any) on the client side might not support the IPSec pass-through correctly or it's disabled.
To make sure, try the connection when the client is directly connected to the modem

- A lot of problems seem to appear when the client is on a 56k or ISDN connection
- Make sure no other VPN clients are installed on the computer
- It could give issues if you enable PPTP and QuickVPN at the same time so your best option is to disable the PPTP server on your RV082.

You can find a nice walk-through on linksysinfo.org:
http://www.linksysinfo.org/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=11664
Although this guide is for the WRV54G, it also applies to the RV042, RV082 and RV016 routers (only the location of several things in the setup menu are different as you will notice)

Appart from these, make sure you're running the latest firmware version on your RV082 and the latest version of QuickVPN (1.0.40 at this moment)

Best regards,

LucF

Thanks keith_alabaster and DarthMod.
Too bad dhubbell76 didn't return to give feedback as I'd love to follow up on this one.
