Backup fails to complete

SBS2003, fully patched up to date, Exchange Server in use. Backup running to tape drive using the SBS backup wizard with no modifications to back up everything on the computer.

The back up runs for 3.5 hours and backs up 39GB of data, but the operation fails in the last few lines of the log.

Well, what are you backing up to?  It looks like a tape drive... how big are your tapes?

Also, you might want to make sure that 831664 patch has been applied (even if you have installed the Service Packs, it's possible that this got dumped in the upgrade).

I can write further data to the tapes, so the first one is not relevant as it refers to lack of media capacity. The second one is not relevant as it refers to failure to mount the media at the beginning of the backup.

Looks like a Windows Update trashed the drive. Rolled back the driver and now it works, so TOPIC CLOSED
