Do these Dual Layer CD Burners need "Dual Layer" capable stuff to be read?

If I burned 4GB of stuff on one, & then sent it to a buddy who didn't have a dual layer cd burner, can he still see all the files in Explorer?

There is no Dual layer CD I've heard of.  There is a Dual Layer DVD, which I'll assume is what you are talking about.  A dual layer DVD SHOULD be readable in other DVD READERS, but you always need to consider that sometimes media simply cannot be read on the occasional model/brand of reader.

... a "dual layer" drive simply means it can WRITE to both layers.   ALL drives can READ both layers of a DVD.   The possible exception is a media incompatibility (e.g. not all readers can read both DVD "-" media and DVD "+" media) ==> so you can burn 8GB on one and your friend can still read it :-)

Note:  it's implied above, but if you're not sure about the media compatibility of your friend's drive, post the make/model here and we can tell you;  or just burn one "+" DVD and one "-" DVD and send him both (they don't have to be dual layer).
