I just installed SBS 2003 with SP1 and I'm trying to go through the event logs to do some cleanup.  I installed WSUS on this machine as well, but when I restart, I get the following entry in my Application log.  I tried giving Everyone and my IUSR account read access to C:\Program Files\Update Services\Selfupdate, but I'm still getting this error.

Event Type:      Error
Event Source:      Windows Server Update Services
Event Category:      Update Services Service
Event ID:      506
Date:            5/27/2006
Time:            3:39:47 PM
User:            N/A
Computer:      THESERVER
Description:
The SelfUpdate Tree is not working.  Clients may not be able to update to the latest WUA client software and communicate with the WSUS Server.

Did you follow the SBS method of installing WSUS?  http://sbsurl.com/wsus

If this is the first SBS you've installed, you must realize that because there are various servers running on the same machine there are unique methods for most all administrative tasks.  If you don't you'll end up breaking one thing or another in SBS.

Please see http://sbsurl.com/itpro for an overview of the main gotchas.

No, I did not follow that guide the first time.  But once I did a reinstall of the OS and used the guide to install WSUS, everything worked perfectly.

Thanks Jeff!
