Cannot find my printers !

I suddenly received the error message "this document failed to print" when trying to print on my installed printer. To resolve the issue I right clicked + deleted the printer and then went to Control Panel to “Add Printer Wizard” to try to reinstall the printer again. However, when going there my HP printer was NOT listed on the list of printers to choose from.

I then clicked on the option “Windows Update” and found the printer under – not HP, but “Hewlett Packard” (HP Laser Jet 1160) and followed the instructions, but an error message came up saying the printer was not plugged in (even though it was). Also when chosing the option “Have Disk” and inserting my HP Printer Installation CD I get the same message half through the installation..

When I put in my installation CD and follow the installation steps I get the same error message half way into the installation process.

Why can I not install my printer  ?  When I go to HP’s tool “Pc Doctor” my printer is NOT detected and in my Control Panel > Add /Remove Programs I can also NOT find the printer, but in my Program files,  all the files still seem to be there.

Grateful for help (urgent) !

I believe the LJ1160 has both parallel & USB interfaces. How is this printer connected?

The fact that it suddenly stopped working and that Windows does not see the printer may imply that the printer is faulty - especially if you are using the USB port. With USB Windows should see a new printer when it is plugged in and switched on.

Does the printer work with another PC? Can you get it to work if you use the other interface?

The problem has happened in the same time for both of my printers (both connected via USB). ...so I don't think there is something wrong with the printers.
It seems like my compute cannot detect any hardware at all, because when I plug in my Thumbdrive, it is not detected and also, my Web Cam cannot anymore be seen.

Suggestions PLEASE (Urgent !)
Sounds like you USB port has failed.
On control panel select SYSTEM. On the hardware tab select 'device manager' and check on the presence of a USB hub.
If not present try adding new hardware.
What does it mean to be "Always On"?

Is your cloud always on? With an Always On cloud you won't have to worry about downtime for maintenance or software application code updates, ensuring that your bottom line isn't affected.

Sounds as if the PC's USB port may have failed. If you can't fix it using joed's instructions, you need to get the PC repaired, or add a separate USB card. If the PC is out of warranty the second option is the cheaper one.
does an usb mouse or keyboard still work? if not, the usb ports can be bad
- if the ports are ok, you can :
Try this :
-try another usb port first if no joy :
-in device manager, under view tab, click show hidden devices.
-now delete in device manager ALL USB entries, and reboot and test.

Problem resolved ! The computer's USB port was broken. The solution: Added a separate USB card.

Thanks all of you for your suggestions !
