Instable virtual Divice Driver failed...

Ok, so I really have two problems but I'm pretty sure that they are interelated.  I'm trying to install a program on my XP Pro operated laptop.  As I am coming to understand it appears to be a software that uses MS-Dos or Win 16 subsystem.  There is a problem with that subsystem but that's not the first problem.  The first problem is that whenever I click to install I get the following message.

"C:\PROGRA~1\\Symantec\S32EVNT1.DLL. An installable Virtual Device Driver failed Dll instialization. Choose 'close' to terminate the application."

If I click to ignore I go on through the setup but it locks up at 6% instalation and eventually gives me the following message. "Win 16 Subsystem may be unstable..." I found out information on this one in another part of the EE website...here.

I'm running XP Pro but I'm pretty sure that this problem is linked to Config.nt and autoexec.nt and I followed the instruction on that question but am still having trouble getting the program installed.  I'm still getting the first message everytime I click setup.  I think it has something to do with the command.com file but I tried replacing that file too...I made a huge assumption that it goes in the c:\windows\system 32 file just like the other two. I'm now beginning to believe that I may hae pasted it in the wrong place but I'm getting confused trying to find it and change it.

Any help or any comments or questions in case I forgot something are all welcomed.  thank you

That fixed the installable virtual driver problem. Thanks. I'm still having trouble with the program stopping at 6% and the 16 bit subsystem still being unstable and closing but I'll work on that and if I can't get it...I'll post another question. Thanks for the help though.
Hope it all works out for you.

After fixing this problem I'm still having trouble with the second error message. I have opened another question here for more help. So far I'm not getting much. Perhaps you can check out the next question and help me out again.
