Sata Drive installation

I need to install a new sata drive in a microstar motherboard.

Operating System = XP media centre

XP goes through the usual stages then says it cant find any hard drives installed.

I have tried pressing f6 to install a driver and downloaded a driver for the hard drive (Maxtor)

Do I need to download a motherboard sata driver?

What about if I install the OS on a ide drive could I clone it over to the SATA drive and if so what program do I need to this and also is there some sort of generic driver that I could use because I have had a simillar problem with 2 other motherboards?

Kind Regards

The easiest way is to download the SATA driver from the board manufacture and put it on a floppy disc . . then when you press F6 at the prompt, XP will load the SATA drivers when it needs them
As said, the simplest way is as indicated by simpswr.
You cannot do it as you asked (install on an ide drive) since your sata drive would still not be recognised without driver
