You cannot do it as you asked (install on an ide drive) since your sata drive would still not be recognised without driver

I need to install a new sata drive in a microstar motherboard.<br />

Operating System = XP media centre<br />
<br />
XP goes through the usual stages then says it cant find any hard drives installed.<br />

I have tried pressing f6 to install a driver and downloaded a driver for the hard drive (Maxtor)<br />

Do I need to download a motherboard sata driver?<br />

What about if I install the OS on a ide drive could I clone it over to the SATA drive and if so what program do I need to this and also is there some sort of generic driver that I could use because I have had a simillar problem with 2 other motherboards?<br />
