Promote Secondary DNS Zone to Primary without AD.

I have a web server with 100 domains hosted.  I have 2 DNS servers right now running Microsoft 2003 server web edition DNS without AD.  One is a Primary and the other a Scondary.  This was working fine put my Primary hardware has crashed, how can I promote secondary to primary and make new secondary without AD?  I do have access to the orginal primary server's harddrive where all the zone text files are located.  If this is not possible what is the best solution?  I have all 2003 server web edition with no AD!  I need redundant DNS wher I can recover easily from a crash!

Forget the crashed the DNS. Just create a new DNS. quoted from http://www.chicagotech.net/dnstroubleshooting.htm

Make sure primary DNS and 2nd DNS servers point to each other as primary and themselves as secondary if both DNS servers are in the LAN.

If you have two or more DNS servers in different locations, you will setup primary DNS and 2nd DNS servers point to themselves as primary and each other  as secondary.

But my Goal is to not have to retype 100 zones again!  How i can I make a new primary DNS without retyping all records.

Hi webquarters,

under the properties of your forward lookup zone can you not change it to primary? this is why AD integrated zones are more efficient

You can do it with this:

How can I backup and restore DNS Settings on a server?
Dean Wells has written an awesome script: dnsdump.cmd. Note: the ulr is to a cm_ file. Save this locally then rename it with the proper extension (i.e. .CMD). This script rocks!

Script is here: http://www.reskit.net/DNS/dnsdump.cm_
