Resetting firm ware password for sun enterprise 3000

How can we reset the firmware password for Sun enterprise 3000, if we lost the password?

    If the device is up, you can reset it via eeprom.  If not, and you can't boot at all because of the password, then you're out of luck and you're going to have to buy a new chip which is expensive.  It's not like a standard PC where you can pull the battery and reset the bios.  In sparc architecture, the password stored in a non-volatile on board ram, which means you can't easily and cheaply reset it.

    Just a thought, we used to set out password as the server name and model so we would remember it.... i.e. Sun3000.... this is just a guess!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    And the lesson here is never set a firmware, or bios password.  It does nothing but stop you from using it at some future date...
