You can not chnage the host id. it's stored in your nvram, you could request a new nvram with a specific hostid.

You need to post the make and model of your machine before you can be given a definative answer.

There are some work arounds for some models to emulate a host id for testing or running obselete software.

Of course if you are wanting to run software that you haven't paid for then you may be subject to legal action.

Hi eandino,

Solaris SUN box will have a NVRAM chip which contains the host ID, yellow sticker  on that chip with a bar code on it. Many licenced software packages are based on the system host ID,
Sun can only replace the chip if given the numbers below this bar code.
Replacement chip has the same host ID and Ethernet address, It can be plugged into the same location on the motherboard.

Cheers. :-)

Hi eandino,

there is a tool you can use to change the hostid of your machine. You can download it in the following link:

Take into account that the change works as long as the machine is up. If you reboot it, you will have the original hostid again.
I hope this can help you.
