Nothing happens when starting service

fedora core 4 box and im trying to start the iptables service.

[root@peng etc]# service iptables start
[root@peng etc]#                  

thats all i get, usually when i start a service it gives an [ok] or something but im getting othing with this. It was working fine when i first installed it and after a reboot i tried to start it and didnt get anything. when i run a service iptables status i get that the service is stopped. any suggestions would be helpful

Hi,

Check you have iptables install by doing:

rpm -qa | grep iptables

if that returns nothing do:

yum install iptables

check /var/logs/messages for any error that might occur when iptables starts.

"rpm -qa | grep iptables" returns the version of iptables
and
/var/logs/messages i dont see anything that has to do with iptables

Right iptables seem to be fine then, what does this return:

service iptables status

i just reinstalled fc4..i took the lazy mans way out =\ thanks 4 the help anyway

Reinstalled fedora core 4, installed brctl and ebtables 2.0.8 and now iptables isnt responding to service iptables start..... anyone else have this problem or no whats wrong?

[root@peng ~]# service iptables status
Firewall is stopped.
[root@peng ~]# service iptables start
[root@peng ~]# service iptables status
Firewall is stopped.
[root@peng ~]#
