how far have you gotten in your uninstallation before that error?

Have you tried multiple times?

The following link guides you through the process of manually uninstalling SQL Server:

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;290991&sd=tech

You are probably in a default instance, but if you are on a cluster you are uninstalling a virtual server. If you have a named instance, then follow those directions.

I have had to manually uninstall before. Follow those directions and you should be fine.
