Why cant use outlook 2003 on exchange 2003, must use outlook web access

Hi

I have n sbs 2003 server and I am using it myself as desktop Pc.  I have exchange setup but it warns me against using outlook 2003, it tells me I hould use oulook web access.  Is there a reason you cant use oulook 2003.  What will happen if I go ahead and use it anyways? will it have negative effects for my server?

Regards
Stephen

Where does it say that you shouldn't use Outlook 2003?  That should not be a problem, as far as I know.
getting a warning message when installing outlook 2003 on the exchange 2003 server?

if that is the case then it is not recommended to install outlook and exchange on the same box.

if not, then i agree with LeeDerbyshire.
Ah, I see - you're using it as a desktop PC.  Yes, installing Outlook on an Exchange server may cause problems, because it replaces the CDO and MAPI DLLs.  How important is the setup to you?  If it's just for testing, then it would probably be worth the risk (after all, many people do install Outlook on their Exchang servers, and have no problems), but if it's an important production server, then I wouldn't risk it.
Have a look at this KB from MS ->

Microsoft does not support installing Exchange Server components and Outlook on the same computer.

Hi what are the  CDO and MAPI DLLs, what would you use them for?
I have oulook installed allready and it works, its just that it keeps giving me the warning?
In what kind of scenario would the outlook issue cause problems?

Stephen
I suppose im wondering what would be worst case effects of using outlook with exchange?
Please go through the KB given above. Most commonly, what i have seen is that when you upgrade your exchange with new service packs or updates, your Outlook will stop working or it can be other way around also, means, if you will update your Outlook with a service pack or with an update, it can disturb your exchange server.
and In case, you face an issue with your Exchange server and calls up Microsoft for support, this scenario is not supported by MS. (clearly explained in the KB)

Thanks,
Amit Aggarwal.

That sounds good,
If you are having issues, is it easy repair, would you just replace files again?
Thanks very much
