802.11b is 11mbit a second and after packet overheads you get throughput of aroung 6mbit/sec

802.11a is 54mbit a second and after packet overheads you get around 36mb throughput.

but 802.11g is 54mb also with a larger range.

hope this is what you were looking for

also there is Pre 802.11n stuff which peaks at 108mb and has an even larger range, however if i was in the market or wireless i would hold out untill the new 802.11n stuff is out as it has a far larger transmission rates and a lot further range

I read somewhere that 802.11b has 2 Mbps broadcast rate?

that indeed is the case if you have 128 bit WEP encryption, but without WEP enabled it runs around 6mbit, with 64bit encryption i was achieving between 3-4 mbits

and 6 mpbs for 11a?

no 802.11a is 54mb and runs at around 36mb, this is the technology you should use for high bandwidth applications since 802.11g only peaks at around 36mb throughput but has a larger distance capability than 802.11a
