Connection problems with FoxPro and Mysql

I am using Foxpro remote views to access a Mysql database on a remote server.  Most of the time this works perfectly well.  Occasionally there is a connectivity problem and after 10 seconds or so the ODBC 3.51.12 screen comes up presenting all of my connection details and wanting me to click ok to attempt reconnection.  Once I do, Foxpro falls over with a connecivity error.

The problem I have is that I want to trap the error in Foxpro but it waits until I click ok or cancel on the ODBC Driver Connect screen.  This is no good as I don't want this user intervention when there's a failure.  I need some form of timeout from this ODBC screen so that Foxpro can fail with an error.

Thank you.

I can't answer this specific question, but I can tell you that I've had similar problems with ODBC drivers for Oracle in custom applications.  We searched high and low for ways to trap and manage these errors without the prompt (the application was running on an unmonitored server), but to no avail.  This is one of those really, really tricky things from my past experience, and we never got it right with ODBC (we migrated away from ODBC as a result of this and other issues).
