I have a database with several related tables in FM8 Advanced Server.

From IWP I want a guest to click on a button and create a new record which they subsequently populate.  The act of creating the new record causes 3 auto-enter fields to fire.  One of the auto-enter fields is a "password" that is displayed on the data entry screen.

When I run this from the desktop, everything works fine.  When I run it from the web via iwp, it appears as though the auto-enter fields do not generate because the "password" is not displayed on the web page and I can check the database after I logout and no records have been created.

The sequence of steps in the new record process are:

1. Go To layout x
2. New record/Request
3. Commit Records/Requests (No Dialog)
4. Go To Field y in layout x

Everything seems ok except no record is created :(  The guest account has datra-entry privilege and all the script steps have run with full access privilege checked.
I also have a save button that I use to commit any data entry and a logout button that commits and exits the application.

What am I missing?  Can I not use auto-enter fields?  Thanks for any help.

it is probably another step. check the flag "show web compatitibilty" at the bottom of scritpmaker; if you have one single step which is not web compatible in that script, it won't simply execute without telling you. so is really yr script the 4 lines you mention?
and when you say goto field y in layout x, what do you mean? this work only if you already are in right layout but won't switch to that layout, so you need to make sure this field is present in the current layout.

Good thought, but I work with web compatibility checked.  To be more specific, the first and last script steps are:

Go to layout ["Personal" (Personal)]
and
Go to Field [Personal::FirstName]

and the cursor is, indeed, in that field.

To make matters worse, I have a smaller web application which seems to work fine and I go through the same steps.  The primary difference is the smaller app has only one table.  I'm sure it's something stupid that I'm ovelooking, but I can't put my finger on it yet.

The problem was an earlier script that left the database in Find mode!!!!!!!

As soon as I put it into Browse mode everything fell into place.  It's taking me a while to catch on to all the little nuances of working with Filemaker.  Thanks for your help.

We may have a pb here, the trip may be 1000 more expensive than the round at the bar.
I am living in Strasbourg/France

The next time we're in Paris maybe we can work something out.  I'd love an excuse to get back.

No, I'm doing this from Cape Cod, MA.  Our favorite trips are Paris, London and Italy so ideally we try to get to one of them each year, but it doesn't always work out.  Our last Paris trip was 2004.

you wake up sooner than me then if you're in Massachussets... I was born right in front of it, on the other end of the ocean!

Here's a question - I'm looking at different possibilities for training.  I'd rather not go to a instructor-led class where they put you through a 3 day cookbook and by the time you get home you've forgotten everything.  There is a series of cd's by john Osbourne that look pretty good.  Do you have any thoughts along those lines?  Thanks.

I don't care. You can even refund. This is a game for me, EE gets the money, so its more a pb for EE than for me!
