Is it possible to access the webserver via the external Dynamic DNS address in the local LAN

Hello,

Is it possible to access the webserver via the external Dynamic DNS address in the local LAN.

I have  a siemens SpeedStream6520 series router and have enabled NAPT Port-by-pass.

Any ideas???

Ok, dw, I have read  a website saying that FQDN is a "Fully Qualified Domain name".

How do i set it up in my router, because my External IP address is Dynamic (it changes)

as I said: you configure your DNS in your internal LAN, or configure each hosts file on each mashine in your internal LAN

Im an Advanced PC user, yet am still learning some things about webservers, I do C++ etc in my free time, not usually webservers,

SO, what do i do?? and how do i do it???

I guess some kind of windoze ...
edit your %SystemRoot%\system32\drivers\etc\hosts file and add something like:

1.2.3.4 FQDN

then enable reading of lmhosts file (ask people in Seatle why its lmhosts there when you have edited hosts;-)
Best you power off and restart your system then ('cause you changed something), may depend on your system.

The answer to your question depends entirely on the firmware of your router.

Some routers are bright enough to recognize the destination address as its own external address and will forward the packets back through itself properly.  However there are many that will simply see a destination IP address and forward it off to its default gateway and the packet will end up lost in the ether.

I do not know if your specific model of router falls into the first category or the second.  The easiest way to find out is probably to try pinging your external IP address.  If it returns a reply it should probably be able to do what you are asking.  If the ping times out your router probably will not be able to handle requests to itself from your internal network.

Is there a particular reason you need to do this?

Is that correct?? because it doesn't work, is it my router??

BTW, these are my routers specs (get them from: http://whirlpool.net.au/index.cfm?a=h_view&model_id=279)

It says DDNS Client, which if im not mistaken, is a Dynamic DNS Client, does that mean that i dont need the No-ip DUC (Dynamic update client)?? because i run linux as a server and running NO-iP DUC in WINE is annoying me.

I took a look at the manual and it doesn't say one way or the other whether it can do loopback routing.

My guess would be that it can't, but i could be wrong.

Also, the line in your HOSTS file should read:

10.0.0.2 share4free.no-ip.info

The HOSTS file is only used for name resolution so there should be no mention of protocol i.e. HTTP.
