Hi All,

Does anyone know what rights are required in Netware 5.1 for a user to access system Console.

    Accepted Solution

    Depends on the method.

Using the older RCONSOLE functionality, someone merely needs the Remote Console Password, as set when RCONSOLE.NLM (older, IPX-based tool) or RCONAG6.NLM (newer, IP-based tool with SSL capability) was loaded. This is less-than-optimal and also the reason that the RCONSOLE functionality was deprecated back in NetWare v5.1. In theory, the RCONJ.EXE (or RCONSOLE.EXE) programs running on the workstations could also check to verify that the user accessing the remote console was designated as a Console Operator for the server in eDirectory, but buggy code in the WNETGETUSER API means that this can be defeated.

Using NetWare Remote Manager (NoRM), which is a web-based, SSL-protected access method, the user must have Supervisor rights over the Server object in eDirectory.
